Apewood was founded in 2016 by João Maria Bernardino, a designer from Lisbon, who has always expressed an interest in creating.
Finding the lines of the aesthetics of modern furniture are the focus of Apewood, creating pieces that seek to be modern, raw and brutalist yet elegant and clean; working mainly with hand tools and, his tool of choice, the chainsaw, which allows João Maria to create unique patterns that embrace and enhance woods’ raw looks in order to achieve one of a kind pieces.
At Apewood, sustainability is also a key factor, where preference is given to local raw materials. This might be wood, metal and stone, or any material that João Maria can get his hands on; each piece of raw material is a starting point of a new design. New concepts and projects arise from a permanent search, that inevitably leads to a constant growth.
